Step into a piece of culinary history at Crown Candy Kitchen, a charming diner located at 1401 St Louis Ave, St. Louis, MO 63106, United States. For over a century, this beloved establishment has become a local icon, not just for its nostalgic atmosphere but also for its mouth-watering menu that will captivate your taste buds.

Crown Candy Kitchen is deeply rooted in tradition while serving up classic American diner fare. The star of the show is undoubtedly the legendary BLT sandwich, which features an astonishing pound of thick-cut, crispy bacon stacked between toasted bread. It's a heart-stopping delight that Miriam Simonsen quite aptly described as a "heart attack on a plate," yet oh-so-worth it with every delectable bite. Many patrons, like Cindy Middendorf, agree that the bacon is so thick that it could almost be a meal on its own, showcasing a commitment to quality with local sourcing.

The dining experience here is nothing short of cozy, reminiscent of a classic 1940s diner. The interior is adorned with antique decor and humble furnishings which provide an inviting atmosphere. However, be prepared for a wait—especially on weekends, as eager diners flock to this small, nearly 20-seat wonder. As you share stories with fellow patrons while you wait, you'll soon be seated at one of the snug booths—perfect for an intimate meal.

While you're here, don’t miss out on the delicious chocolate malt that has garnered rave reviews from chocolate lovers and casual diners alike. Sunny Park remarked that it was a “10/10” experience, and even non-chocolate fans like Hemanth Gowda Krishnappa found it irresistible. Pair it with a tuna salad sandwich or a heaping grilled cheese for a satisfying meal. Although not every dish hits a home run (as noted by other reviewers), the friendly staff and rapid service are constants that elevate the experience.

Crown Candy Kitchen is not just a place to eat; it’s a celebration of all that makes St. Louis special. As you savor the flavors, explore the warmth emanating from the staff and immerse yourself in the rich history that this establishment proudly upholds. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this diner is a must-visit for anyone seeking a taste of St. Louis nostalgia. Bring your appetite—and maybe a friend, but heads up about those cozy booths!

When visiting, be prepared for an adventure of flavor and history, and keep your camera ready for the unique moments that Crown Candy Kitchen has to offer!

This very unique place serves the most amazing BLT on this planet. 1 whole pound of crisp delicious bacon on your toasted bread. It's a heart attack on a plate but worth every bite. Their tuna sandwich was also very good....says my friend (so not from first hand taste testing). They have limited seating so be prepared to wait to get a table. We've tried to go back to eat but we were tight on time, so had to choose a different lunch venue. So arrive early to be able to get in faster. They have homemade chocolates...delicious. The vanilla malt is a most heavenly creamy taste. I would love to try more things but I have to be able to get in the door first ... problem for me, but great for their business. Limited parking close by also. Worth the wait but don't go if you're in a rush.

Giving this place a 5 star just because of the history. I had a basic Chocolate Malt with the bacon sandwich. The Malt was great, the BLT was ok. I wouldn’t write home about it. Not sure if the years of hype about the place or the bacon has gone down. Bacon wasn’t explained like I was told, bacon so thick lol. Overall a good place, history and great people. It’s worth a try.

Crown Candy Kitchen is a St Louis icon. It is a family business that has been operating for more than 100 years. There is usually a line waiting outside to get into the dining room, especially on weekends. It is an old school 1940s style diner. They are famous for their enormous BLT sandwich. The bacon is almost 3 inches thick and sourced locally. It's definitely more than one person can eat so best to share it so you have room for dessert because their ice cream is amazing! They make it on site and the multiple flavors are all rich and creamy. Today my friend and I split the BLT. Then I had a chocolate ice cream soda with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. It was creamy and delicious! Not real phosphate fizzy, but the chocolate flavor is so good - I found it Very satisfying. My friend had the crown sundae and loved it. I couldn't pass up getting some of their homemade candy to take home for hubby and kids. I chose snappers (caramel pecan clusters), chocolate cashew clusters, black licorice bites, and gummy fish. P.S. This is not the place to go for healthy options or if you are on a diet.

I have been hearing about Crown Candy for so long and finally made it out here with some coworkers. We went on a weekday around 1pm and still had to wait about 45 minutes outside for a table of 4. Inside is very antique and old school with like twenty seats. The staff moves fast and is super friendly. I had to try the chocolate milkshake, definitely 10/10. I got the tuna salad sandwich and it was basically all tuna with barely any bread and on the saltier side. I still ate it all. My coworkers got different sandwiches and they seemed to like theirs more. We also saw a couple of people order the one pound bacon sandwich which is wild! I could never do it but it was cool to see it in person. Overall I liked the atmosphere and the history of the place but the tuna sandwich is not something I would get again. I do want to try their handmade candy too next time.

Felt a bit uneasy driving here off the freeway but it’s a GREAT place!!! Sat right away at 2:00 on a Thursday, ordered, had our sandwiches within minutes! There must’ve been a pound of bacon on my BLT! Got it on their sourdough instead of white-perfect!!! Literally everything you hoped it would be from all the pics/reviews! Chicken salad sandwich was also loaded and delish! We could’ve split1 sandwich but each of us ate the whole thing. Split a 2-scoop and it was plenty! I think I just became a ‘vanilla is my favorite’ person! It was soooo creamy! Will definitely come here again and bring friends on our Route 66 trip! Thank you for the great service & great food!!!

My first server could perhaps use more training. However, once I was moved into another section, the service was great; I believe her name was Latoya. I ordered the grilled cheese, had it not been for the server's recommendation to add tomatoes and onions, the sandwich would not have been enjoyable for the price. Moving on to dessert- the sundae I was absolutely delicious! I don't typically indulge regarding sweets, but I wanted the full experience. A scoop of banana, a scoop of chocolate with their exclusive butterscotch, salted pecans and whipped cream. Most certainly exceeded my expectations. As an area native, who currently lives out of state. It was my first time, the visit did not disappoint. I can confidently recommend this historic spot, and I will return... For the ice cream!!!

I love this little gem of through back nostalgia. Used to go to a place kinda like this in our small town when I was a kid with my grandmother. A hint, go with only one person and you’ll find a cute little table for two. When I say little, I mean little. Just like the bigger booths, they’re made for smaller people. People who are larger won’t find it easier or even be able to fit. Sorry, I’m not being rude, just trying to be helpful. So I had an appetizer of black walnut ice cream that was toooooo die for. Then the most humongous BLT sandwich, I’ve ever had. My wife had the Reuben and really enjoyed it, she went on and on about how good the bread was. We left with some old fashioned Scottish oatmeal cookies (If you like crunchy cookies, you’ll love them like I did.) and some dark chocolate candies. This is a must visit place and honestly, I want to go back for more black walnut ice cream.

Finally made a visit to Crown Candy after living in St Louis for several years. I got egg salad sandwich and chocolate malt for lunch. Sandwich was ok and chips tasted like ruffles not sure if it is house made. Chocolate malt is super delicious, I am not a chocolate person but tried it as everyone mentioned it is one of the favorites flavors at Crown Candy and sure it is.
